Today’s story of Thanksgiving resonates with us because we farm the land and are truly grateful for all that we harvested this year that we could share with so many. The day allows all of us to reflect on the people around us for whom we are grateful: our families, our co-workers, our customers, friends and fellow community members. We are proud to be part of this great community and invited Dave Vago, from the Three Rivers DDA to give an update on what is happening in Three Rivers especially with things you can enjoy this weekend. See his message below.
So while we are not open this weekend, we will be around the farm working. If you would like to make an appointment to pick up some apples, organic produce, hard ciders, wine or brandy, or a frozen “take and bake” pie, call us and we’ll meet up with you. 269-244-5690.
Our simple message from everyone here at the farm to all of you: Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
From Dave Vago:
It’s been a few months since you might have heard from our historic downtown in this newsletter, but that doesn’t mean nothing’s been going on here in Three Rivers’ Main Street world. In fact, quite the opposite is true. We’ve been taking important steps to plan our next steps in downtown revitalization to make the most of the great momentum we have. Simultaneously, we’ve been running around and gearing up for one of our best and most cherished events: Christmas Around Town on Main Street.
If you’ve never been to Christmas Around Town, it’s like a Hallmark special, Mayberry, and Bedford Falls all wrapped up into one little family-friendly, small-town experience. There’s a ceremonial tree lighting in our mural mall at Portage and Main on Friday night, which includes a Dickens reading, carolers from the high school choir, and free hot chocolate courtesy of our own downtown merchants. That starts at 6pm, this Friday, November 24th. Also, earlier that day (if you’re a microbrew connoisseur) Kelsey Block Brewing Company will unveil a new black stout just in time for the holidays.
Then, on Saturday, Santa Claus arrives at noon–by fire truck!–at our beautiful, historic Riviera Theatre, where he will spend the afternoon (until 4:00) greeting and sitting with children, diligently making note of their Christmas wishes. While that’s going on, Main Street will feature live reindeer for the petting and Central Park-style carriage rides. A host of businesses will host a range of great activities: ornament making, Christmas sugar cookie decorating, a Santa’s Workshop kids craft area, a homemade cookie sale, face painting, and more! There will be two pop-up artists’ and artisans’ vendor spaces on Main Street, a holiday open house at Ridgeway Floral, a Holiday Center by New Hope Assembly of God featuring free refreshments and gift wrapping, and some businesses will also host holiday specials with snacks and refreshments.
Even after most activities conclude at 4:00 pm, our dining and drinking establishments will remain open for the evening, and some will feature holiday programming or specials for the event. So, Saturday, November 25th will be a fun-filled day. Of some note, Saturday is also Small Business Saturday, a celebration of local businesses nationwide, what some might consider an antidote to Black Friday.
Sunday rounds out the weekend with continued Santa visits from 1 to 3 at the Riviera Theatre. The businesses will again be open; many will continue to offer specials, and some will have activities. The pop-up arts spaces, the New Hope Holiday Center with gift wrapping, and Ridgeway Floral’s Holiday Open House will continue for the day.
Most Main Street businesses will open at 10:00 a.m. on all three days.
This weekend is a great way to burn off a little bit of Thanksgiving dinner without noticing the effort too much – just strolling the street – and to beat the cabin fever that follows. We’re proud to offer this little slice of American holiday tradition in our historic downtown, and we hope you’ll join us. Be sure to like and follow Downtown Three Rivers and Christmas Around Town 2017 on Facebook for the latest schedule changes and additions. Come on out – we’ll see you on Main Street!
