Hello from where we are all sheltering in place on the farm! So the world is changing and things are unsettling. However, the rhythm of spring is in perfect tempo here on the farm. We are grateful for the mild winter where our fruit trees, plants and vines got their winter rest and the chilling requirements they needed, and now have begun their annual growth. Peaches, cherries, plums and early apples are budding out more each day. During this time with so many businesses closed, we take our responsibility of being one of the critical industries (Agriculture and Food) seriously. We have a small but mighty crew working daily to finish up pruning, begin to prepare the ground for planting, and tend to all the plants growing in the greenhouse. We are carefully monitoring the best practices for keeping food and our employees safe, which has always been our priority. The tomatoes are thriving in the greenhouse, and so it is time to extend our annual promise to get you a good tasting tomato for your first BLT by the middle of May. A few weeks ago, after starting our morning with a beautiful sunrise, we got our straw down in the strawberry rows; now we’re waiting for the plants to start pushing out for the year. We have added an additional field of strawberries this year with some varieties that will help us extend the season about a week longer.
