Our Fall Transition has begun…

This week begins our transition into fall. We noticed it immediately after catching our breath after the busy Labor Day weekend… Our lake customers have returned back home for the season, kids have started school, everyone’s garden is giving out its final burst of vegetables. Some of our own vegetable fields are beginning to slow down, the grapes are beginning to smell wonderful, pumpkins and fall mums move us into a fall color scheme, and apple harvest has begun. So this update is to give everyone information on what we have now and when things are coming:

Vegetables: zucchini, summer squash, cabbage, peppers (many kinds), kale (red Russian and curly from Becca’s garden), eggplant, sweet corn, black beans, brussels sprouts, onions (many kinds), shallots and herbs. Note: this is the end of the sweet corn, if you want us to save some for you, call ahead. Sadly, the great-tasting green beans that we have had are now gone for the year. Fall squash will be starting next week.

Picked Tomatoes: Big, beautiful field tomatoes are coming in plentifully along with 5 kinds of mini-tomatoes from the field and sun sugar cherry tomatoes from Becca’s garden. We have bushels of first-quality tomatoes available but please call ahead and order if you would like some. For those of you who have been on our waiting list for either firsts or seconds tomato bushels, we are rapidly getting those orders out and if you haven’t heard from us should be getting a call soon.

U-Pick Tomatoes: U-Pick tomatoes are now getting more plentiful and we are more than halfway through the list of customers who want to pick tomatoes. So again, you should be hearing from us soon to get you out to pick. As soon as we get through the list of everyone who has asked to pick, we will open up the field daily and you will not need to schedule ahead 스냅스 다운로드.

Fruit: We will harvest our great tasting cantaloupe for just a few more days and we have lots of watermelon coming in. Small containers of seeded Fredonia grapes are available. Fall raspberries are here.

Blueberries are now gone for the year—it was so great to have such a long season on them. It will be hard to start using them from the freezer now.

Potatoes: We have white, red, Yukon gold, and the russet baking potatoes on the market. We’ve harvested all our potatoes for the year, so they are now available by the bushel for your fall/winter use. They are $20 a bushel, which makes them less than 50 cents a pound. Bring containers to put bushels in, preferably crates or something similar so air can circulate through windows loader.

Bagged onions: Our sweet candy onions (red and yellow) and our white superstar onions have now been cleaned and bagged. They have been dried and cured and will keep for you, so stock up if this is your last weekend in the area.

  • Mollie’s Delicious is a large, sweet eating apple. We only have a few more bags of Mollie’s.
  • Gala is a great eating and cooking apple. It has a crisp snappy bite over a mellow sweetness. We started our second picking of these today so we have plenty available. This is one of the best all around apples for fresh eating and the perfect size for packing for lunches and snacks Bluebird has download.
  • Earli-blaze: This is a good cooking or eating apple, and it particularly makes a wonderful apple pie. We sell this apple to bakeries (including our own) for apple pie. We have them available by the bushel. We have just a few of these left, call us if you want us to save you some.

Apple Pricing for the year:  Our apple pricing will be the same as last year, and is the same for picked apples or u-pick apples. With the exception of a few special varieties apples will be: $24 a bushel**, $13 a half-bushel, $7 a peck (1/4 of a bushel), $4 a half-peck, $2 a 1/4 peck and $1.00 a pound.  **When we have bushels available 여자아이들 한 다운로드. U-Pick apples: We will open U-Pick apples again when we have several varieties available, our best guess right now would be around September 19th, but please check back with us as it is weather dependent.

Concord and Niagara grapes:   We appreciate everyone’s interest and the many calls we are getting on U-Pick grapes. We plan to take a sugar sample next week so by September 12th we can hopefully set an opening date. We will have plenty to pick 2019 알라딘 더빙판. Pricing will be the same as last year. 25 cents a pound or 20 cents a pound if you pick over 100 pounds. Note: Some of you are asking about trying to come after work to pick grapes.  To accommodate this, we will stay open later on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for grape picking only.

Happenings on the farm this week: 

First, we all survived Labor Day weekend….and while we loved having all of you customers here, we do have to admit, we were exhausted by the end of Monday evening, no football watching for us!  An extra thank-you to all of the market clerks who scurried around those 4 days keeping things on the shelves and taking care of our customers in the very friendly and helpful way in which they do. Labor Day weekend is always bitter sweet as we say good-bye for the year to many of the lake customers.

We had a nice visit from our friends Keith and Lisa who own Full City Café in Portage, Michigan. They make an effort to buy from local farms all over our area and their food is better and tastier for it! This week CLO helped to supply them with peppers, cabbage, and over 60 lbs 녹정기 소설 다운로드. of tomatoes. We’ve worked with them periodically but this was the first time they made it to the farm.

Because I love coffee, I am frequently in the bakery refilling my cup in the mornings and always pretty amazed and in awe of what I see that goes on to make the final products such as:

When I ask them if they ever get tired of making that long roll of cinnamon dough each morning, they say no, they love to do it!   And for that, we are all thankful.

Apple Harvest started seriously this week with the Gala harvest.  We have two amazing workers who have picked all of the Gala apples in just 3 days—and are skilled to not bruise any, which is one of the most difficult things about picking apples.

Fall apple update:

  • Our goal this apple season is to satisfy as many customers as we can with fresh quality apples graphpad prism 5. We will offer both pre-picked and u-pick apples this year, but due to Michigan’s extreme winter weather and the late spring frost, we won’t have a full crop. The extent of the damage varies by variety and depends on whether or not they were in full bloom at the time of the spring frost. Michigan overall has a good crop of apples, our southwest location was just the wrong place at the wrong time on May 15th.
  • Below you will find a list of which apples we will have and when we think they will be ready. This is our best guess – even now, we can’t be 100% sure pbe server. We will be happy to help you when you call or stop by the market to recommend other apples you can try in place of ones that aren’t plentiful this year. Who knows, you might learn to like a different apple better than one you have loved for years!
  • We know how important the u-pick experience is for many of you,  For those families who really enjoy bringing your kids out for the experience of picking apples during the beauty of autumn, you will still be able to do that. Check our website or call us for when later u-pick varieties will be available.
  • We will take orders on the varieties that are in short supply and honor as many as we can.
  • When each apple variety is available on the market, we will send that information out in an email and post it on our website. You can also call us at 269-244-5690.
  • On a personal note, when I walk through the apple orchards this year, it is hard to believe that just last year we had such a bumper crop and so many apples. The sad part is also seeing how the severe winter killed 10% of our trees. If you are out in the orchard this year and wonder why there are trees cut down and missing—this is why.
  • We greatly appreciate the loyalty of our customers and hope you will be loyal in both years of bumper crops like 2013, years like 2012 when we didn’t have hardly any, and now this year where we have plenty of some varieties but not others.

Last Weekend of July

We find ourselves at the last weekend of July and it is supposed to be a beautiful weekend so hope you all enjoy it.   The temperature should be perfect for grilling out this weekend, so we have an array of recipes you can pick up with your produce this weekend on grilling vegetables.  These come from a new book we bought entitled “The Gardener and the Grill–the Bounty of the Garden meets the sizzle of the Grill.”  You will find these recipes mixed in with the produce plus all of the herbs you will need are fresh picked and available as well file from Servlet.

Goodbye Greenhouse tomatoes:  We have been picking tomatoes since May 5th from our greenhouse and yesterday we did our annual job of “taking out the greenhouse for the year.”  We harvested about 4 ton of tomatoes out of the greenhouse this year.  Many thanks to my Dad and Tom who both managed the greenhouse this year, a job well done! 해시탭 다운로드!

Before we took out the 8-foot plants, we picked off all of the green tomatoes.  So…..we have a green tomato special going on:  50 cents a pound or a 1/2 bushel for $5.00!!!   So this is the weekend for fried green tomatoes or if you want to grill some, we have a recipe for grilled green tomato “sandwiches” with herbed cream cheese Download the asp net mvc file.

We now have enough field tomatoes coming in from the field for you.  The one thing you will notice is that field tomatoes are not as pretty as our greenhouse tomatoes.  Please be assured the flavor is as good and better.  Remember our greenhouse tomatoes got protected from all of the elements of nature:  wind, hard rains, animals, etc, where as our field tomatoes have seen just about everything this year…. 몬스터길들이기 다운로드.

The market is so full of produce this weekend we can barely find enough shelf space!!  The abnormal summer heat has accelerated many of the vegetable crops so get them now as they won’t last through August like they usually do.  Every vegetable we grow is now available.

Peaches:  We picked about a quarter of a bushel of peaches today and will be bringing in a few each day.    The majority of our Red Haven peaches are still 4 – 7 days away.  We will not have any by the bushel, just small boxes for fresh eating Match of the Century download.

Summer apples:  We have Jersey Mac and Earli-blaze on the market for fresh eating.  We hope to have bushels of Earli-blaze apples by the end of next week 산돌 격동굴림 다운로드.

Egg Supply:  We are doing out best to keep eggs on the market but please be aware that the chickens are not cooperating, so call ahead to make sure we have eggs as we are selling out quickly when they come in gta3 다운로드.

All you ever wanted to know about our Honey on the market:

We’ve always offered local honey, but now we’re offering extremely local honey, from our eight hives tucked away on our farm, where a vineyard meets pear and peach orchards.  It is a very sweet and light honey.  We anticipate larger jars after the season-end robbing of honey (after Labor Day), but now have a 2.25 “taster” jar and a 5.5 ounce, proudly bottled under the Corey Lake Orchards label.   Honeybees fly up to three miles foraging, but we’re fairly sure these bees never had reason to leave the farm!

Our beekeeper is my sister Charlotte.  Her late husband was a beekeeper; all profits from this honey go to support his favorite charities of Meals on Wheels and Loaves & Fishes.

We also have honey from the local Babcock Apiary, and have quite a variety of sizes and containers.  Larger quantities (half gallon, quart, etc.) are priced economically for baking or topping lots of biscuits.

If you’ve never tried comb honey, we also now have it.  Many adults say they had it as a child, and appreciate the chance to bite into pure bliss again.  Honeybees keep their hives fastidiously clean; chew the honeycomb until you’ve enjoyed all the honey, and dispose of the remaining wax.  How and where is your secret….

Local honey tends to help people combat local allergies, and offers many other health benefits such as boosting immunity and energy.  Honey lasts forever, although it will crystallize.  Most commercial honey (not what we sell here) has been heated and filtered to delay crystallization—removing most of its helpful properties.  If your honey crystallizes, simply set in a pan of hot water (or in the sun) to liquefy it again.

Sweet Corn is back and we have Fruit!!

Sweet corn is back and we should have it daily now.  It is the bi-color sweet corn from the Stear’s Farm in Constantine.  The corn picked and delivered today looks beautiful! Monthly Yoon Jong-shin download!

Much to our surprise, we discovered the cantaloupe were ready today.   So we will be bringing these in daily now as they ripen.  They are incredibly sweet this year (thanks to the dry conditions—see there is some good to no rain.)

We also have started picking some summer apples.  These are for pies, sauce and eating—they are a tart apple.  We have Jersey Mac’s and Earli-Blaze and are selling them in 2-quart boxes.  We will have Earli-blaze for sale by the bushel in about one more week 라인 쿠키런 다운로드.

Blueberries:  Just when we had given up on our blueberries, the last few rains have renewed them so we are picking a few more over the next few days sp3.

Mid August Update

Welcome Racers:  We want to welcome all of the racers and volunteers participating in the Three Rivers Triathlon/Duathlon on Saturday, August 20th.  Good luck to each of you and know that when you are finished, there will be fresh apples, watermelon and canteloupe provided by Corey Lake Orchards to refresh you.    You are welcome to participate in our own sporting event if you choose:

  • Duathlon:  Pick a bushel of tomatoes, then carry two large watermelon at a time from the field to the waiting tractor Master of Farm.
  • Triathlon:  Pick a bushel of tomatoes, then carry two large watermelon at a time from the field to the waiting tractor, dig one bushel of potatoes (we will loan you the shovel) and carry them into the market for us! spss 23 한글판 다운로드!

Summer Apples:  We have two great summer apples on the market right now.  Jersey Macs and Earli-blaze.  They are both excellent for eating or cooking.  We have samples of each for you to try to see which you like best.   They are available by the bushel, peck, 1/2 peck of pound web square file. For those of you who love the Jersey Mac, this is the last weekend for them. so hurry over.

Baked goods:  Our bakers are offering fresh peach pie this week (because it is finally peach season!!) andfresh apple pie made out of our Earli-blaze apples.   I can personally attest to both of these pies being delicious.  Of course the bakers say it is because of their crust, I say it is because of our fruit.    You decide… 밴드 동영상 다운로드.

Watermelons are here:  We started bringing in watermelon today.   These are the real thing: Crimson Sweet (striped round with seeds) or Charleston Grey (long green oblong with seeds.)  Sorry, we don’t grow any seedless watermelon as we find seeded watermelon so much tastier time of accumulation.

Canteloupe:   The canteloupe must have loved this summer’s weather, as they are really nice this year, and so sweet.    We have three sizes:  Medium, Large and Extra-large (and even we are shocked by the size of the extra large!)  The season is at its peak right now and won’t last much longer so come out and get some snipaste.

Peaches:  We still have Red Haven peaches, available in small eating quantities only, no bushels.  We have a very small peach orchard since we took out a peach orchard last fall 영화 사랑이 이끄는 대로 다운로드.

Sweet Corn:  Our own sweet corn is now gone for the season, but we will be bringing in Stears Sweet corn (white and bi-color) hopefully through Labor Day weekend 후디니 다운로드.

Greenhouse Tomatoes:    We finished taking out the greenhouse this week,  a huge thank you to all of our customers who have faithfully bought greenhouse tomatoes from us since April.  We have a few left to sell, plus all of the remaining green tomatoes we are selling for 50 cents a pound, this is the time to make fried green tomatoes! 오르골자장가 다운로드!

U-Pick Field Tomatoes We are having a very difficult tomato growing year based on a number of field conditions and the weather, beginning with the spring planting.    We had to replant them several times this spring,  which is one of the reasons causing them to be late.    The extremely hot/humid weather in July caused excessive mold/mildew.  Now some of the plants have developed late blight.    There are good years and bad years in farming; and with last year’s tomato crop being so good, this year’s is disappointing.  However,  we still have good tomatoes, with the same great flavor that you are used to getting from us Farand Tactics2.

Given the need to continue to take care of the tomato plants and keep them as healthy as possible as the tomatoes ripen, we have decided we must postpone U-Pick until at least some time in September.  Knowing our customers are anxious to start canning tomatoes, we will pick them and offer “field tomato seconds” at the same price you could have picked them for: $12 a bushel.  A field tomato “second” is simply a “not so perfect tomato.”   It might have a crack, a skin mark where the tomato touched the wet ground, or be mis-shaped.  These are perfect for canning, you will just have a little extra work to cut some of the spots out.     If you would like these, please call and give us your name, phone number, and quantity desired (limit of 3 bushels per customer until we get everyone some tomatoes).  We will call you as soon as we can get them for you.  269-244-5690.

We will still have tomatoes to pick once we open the U-Pick in September, for $12/bushel.  Check back at the very end of August to see if we have an opening date.  We have about  80  plants that we put in late, which have not even started turning red yet!  So far, these plants are large and beautiful, have not been affected by the blight and are producing lots of tomatoes, if you can just be patient and let them grow and ripen!!  Your patience and support of this change is appreciated as we work through this problem.

Other vegetables on the market:  onions, red potatoes, various kinds of peppers, summer squash, spaghetti squash, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, cabbage, kale and collard greens.

Brandy House:  The brandy house will be open on Saturday from 1 – 4 for tasting and to learn about how we make brandy.

Fall apples and grapes:  We have a good crop of both this year and will have them available for U-Pick and picked in the market.  They are going to be late this year by about 10 days to two weeks.  Check back the week of September 5th for an update on how they are progressing.

Sorry, no pictures again as my camera has still not turned up from being lost.    I still think it got lost picking corn, if you happened to find a camera in your dozen of corn, please let me know!

Happy August

Finally, a break from the heat and humidity that took its toll on everyone and our crops too.   Even the “hot weather” crops seemed to rebel!!   The largest problem this has caused is  our fruit/vegetables molding/spoiling due to the hot-wet conditions.  We absolutely want to make sure we always give you a fresh-top-quality product, so we are doing our best to sort this out, but this weather has been so difficult that things spoil quickly or we might miss something.  If you ever get something here you are not happy with, please let us know and we will make sure to make it right with you on your next visit Download 7seeds.

Fruit:  We still have blueberries and hope to have for about another week.  Our melons (canteloupe) are just starting to come in.   We are starting to pick Jersey Mac Apples which are good for eating fresh or cooking.  We will have a very good apple coming in about a week called Earli-blaze, which is excellent for cooking (especially pie) and eating 스타크래프트 에쒸비 다운로드.

What’s coming for fruit? Some peaches will hopefully be ready in about a week to ten days.  Peaches are late this year because we took out one of our early peach orchards last fall, so we only have midseason and late peaches this year.  We have a small crop this year of Stanley prune plums, check back around August 20th for ripening update.  We have a good crop of Bartlett pears this year, check back with us around August 22 for availability 굿락 2018 다운로드.

Fall crops:    Many of you are beginning to ask about apples and grapes.    As of right now, we have a good crop of both.  We will keep you updated in these emails on when each variety of apples is ready as well as grapes, but we won’t have much information until September Lady Bird.   We will have U-Pick on both of these crops.

Vegetables:  We have plenty of vegetables, especially sweet corn right now!    We are waiting for the next planting of green beans to come in, so probably will not have more green beans until about August 17th or so.  We have started picking October or “cranberry” beans.  This is a bean that must be shelled out, like a pinto bean.  We fix a large pot of these every week when they are in season, they are Mr 떡볶이 다운로드. Tomatoes:  Everybody is anxious for U-Pick tomatoes.  They are coming on slowly, but check back around August 13th and hopefully we will have a starting date by then and price 죽어도 너야 다운로드.

Onions:  We have all of our onions harvested now for the year.  We had to pull them earlier than we would have wanted due to the heat and humidity.     They are still drying but can be purchased now “on the string.”   There are 4 varieties, all sweet.  All of the white and yellow onions are 80 cents per pound “on the string.”  The red onions are $1.00 per pound “on the string.”

The Humming Bird garden:  A large bird has appeared in the hummingbird garden, which is certainly not in the hummingbird family.    Maybe it will help harvest the sunflowers which have grown to record height and will require a ladder to be picked! report form!
